St. Stephen's De La Salle

For many years, Waterford City Library held a quiz for sixth class teams from all over the city.

In 2003, it was held in the City Hall. It consisted of ten rounds with six questions in each. St. Stephen’s won by one point. It was the first time that the school won this quiz and all the teachers were delighted! Next came the Credit Union Local Quiz. This was the third time being in this quiz for two members of our team. We came third those two times. But this year it was going to change. It was held in the Granville Hotel. There were over twenty-five teams in our category. There were twelve rounds with six questions in each. This time we beat Mount Sion by one point. We received the trophy for the school and a voucher and plaque each.

We then went on to the regional final. This year it was held in the Minella Hotel in Clonmel. This time there were thirty teams. The questions were harder. In the end we finished second to Holy Cross, Tramore. We were five points behind them. We got a thirty Euro cheque from the Credit Union. We were delighted.

We then advanced to the All-Ireland final. This was the first time our school got this far. There were fifty teams in our category. Ray d’Arcy was the quizmaster. It was held in the RDS, Dublin. We left Waterford at about eight o’clock. We arrived at about one o’clock. The quiz started at half-past two. The questions were harder again! Spa National School won the quiz. We finished in the top ten and each received a certificate and a goody bag. We achieved something our school has never done before. Well done to Mrs. Musgrave (team manager), Br Martin (school principal), Mr. Greene and Mr. Morris (class teachers) and Mrs. Kehoe.
