Mr. Russell’s 5th Class had an amazing learning experience when they got a chance to Skype with Rob at Blackrock Castle Observatory for Space Week! Rob used the open source software Stellarium to take the boys on a journey around the solar system and the planets, including Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, as well as looking further out into space at a nebula, other galaxies, and also had a look at the night sky and some of the constellations that the boys had been learning about during the week. Rob also pointed out some stars and planets that had been used and referenced in the TV show “Star Trek”. The class also had the opportunity to ask Rob a lot of questions about the space journey that they had just been on. A huge word of thanks to Rob for his time and the wonderful information that he shared with 5th Class.
