Our 4th, 5th and 6th Classes visited Waterford Institute of Technology for a show called “Save The Planet in 45 Minutes” on Friday, November 15th, 2019! The show was presented by Dr. Ken Farquhar, and the boys learned about composting, how long certain foods take to decompose and how dangerous they can be if not disposed of properly. They also learned about Polystyrene (also known as Styrofoam) and watched as it dissolved. There was also a demonstration of the effects of plastics and single use plastics on our environment, and how long certain kinds of plastics take to biodegrade. Fuels and gasses were discussed next, followed by a talk about global warming. Everyone enjoyed the talk for Science Week about saving the planet.
