St. Stephen's De La Salle

Science for Fun was back for its’ second week as the boys in Mr. Russell’s 3rd Class welcomed Miss Robinson and 5 more brilliant volunteer parents to do more fun science experiments! For week 2, the boys worked with volcanoes – discussing some famous volcanoes and how volcanoes erupt. Then came the time for the experiment! Using food colouring, baking soda, volcano moulds and vinegar, the groups tested to see what happens when lava escapes from the top of the volcano and what direction it might take when it does erupt. It was messy and smelly fun – the best kind!

The second experiment was even better! Miss Robinson  led the groups in experimenting with a sandwich bag full of water with each bag being pierced by sharp pencils. Most of the bags didn’t leak! That led to a great discussion about why some bags did and why some didn’t and the boys took a second go to test out the different theories about the bag being waterproof. Super work from the budding scientists! Check out some great photos in our full gallery below!
