We are very lucky in St. Stephen’s to have many partnerships with the local clubs and groups in the area.
Every week we have coaches from De La Salle GAA club come to the school and complete coaching and training for the boys. Pictured below is Joey working with the Junior and Senior infants and also Peter and Barry working with the 1st and 2nd classes. This link to De La Salle has continued to grow and we appreciate the excellent relationship that’s there.
In recent years we have worked with Waterford City Rugby club and tried to get the boys involved in new sports. In connection with the Waterford Sports Partnership, Waterford City Rugby Club and Munster Rugby many classes took part in rugby coaching and fun blitz activities. We hope to continue this partnership going forward as the boys are really enjoying the tag rugby games. Our 6th class boys were very lucky to get to play at the Aviva Stadium this year! In connection with ALDI and Irish rugby we brought 23 students to take part in a tag rugby competition played against schools from all around Ireland. The boys had a great day out and we even met some famous faces along the way! Check the pictures to see who they were!!
In St. Stephen’s we are very lucky to work with Villa FC soccer club. They are very generous in allowing all classes to use their excellent facilities. Different classes use the astroturf pitches throughout the year and the boys love going and being active by walking down and playing sport together. We use these trips
as rewards for excellent attendance, tidy classrooms and other in school competitions each year. Look at the pictures below of the 6th class boys enjoying sport in the sun together.
5th class students take part in cycling every year where Donal from Cycle Right comes to the school and teaches them about bike safety and also gives them new skills and techniques to work on. The boys complete these activities in the yard. To end the program, the boys took a trip to the Waterford Greenway and tried out their new skills! Check out the pictures below.
