Mr. Russell’s 5th Class 2024/2025 were learning all about World War I (and by extension, World War II). The class learned about the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the beginning of the war, the Christmas Truce, the Battle of the Somme and many more things about The Great War, including the songs “And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” and “The Green Fields Of France”, both written by a man named Eric Bogle. The boys also learned how the war officially ended with the Treaty of Versailles.

Taking the topic of World War I, the class combined that with the art concept of Negative Space and created these absolutely stunning and poignant paintings of the silhouetted outlines of soldiers and tanks at sunset. Check out these masterpieces in the gallery below.
