Mr. Russell’s 3rd Class 2021/2022 enjoyed lots of activities to mark Space Week 2021! The boys did a practical experiment to compare the relative size of the Sun to the size of the Earth! The idea came from Frances at Blackrock Castle Observatory in Co. Cork and was a very practical and visual activity for the boys. The class had a string circle stretching several metres – the actual size of the Earth, with a scale of 1:100, would have been approximately 4cm. The boys had to draw the Earth compared to the size of the string circle, making their best guess. Some guesses were good and some guesses were very good!
