St. Stephen's De La Salle

Mr. Russell’s 5th Class 2024/2025 completed a unit of work to remember the terrible events of September 11, 2001 in the USA, when the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre were destroyed in an awful attack. Through reading, writing and art, the boys marked the anniversary of the tragedy. They saw actual news bulletins broadcast on TV from the day, read about what happened, and saw the front pages of newspapers as they told the world about the horrific news. The boys also read the fantastic novel, “ELEVEN” by author Tom Rogers.

Although most news is broken online now, the boys explored the newspaper headlines from 2001 and then created their own newspaper front pages and headlines. Check out the finished pieces below, along with a few pictures of the boys working on them:

The boys also worked very hard on a paper model of the World Trade Centre complex that existed until the September 11th attacks. It was a huge undertaking and required a lot of work but the finished pieces were very impressive! See the boys with their finished models in the gallery below:
