St. Stephen’s played St. Mary’s Ferrybank in the U13 Roinn B Cup Final on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024. St. Stephen’s started well and had many chances to take an early lead with some great team play with Davin Power, Casper Emeribe and Calvin Quinlan showing well. We took the lead with some well worked team scores with Jake Caufield, Jack Roche and Toby Fitzgerald involved setting up points for Alex Halik and Dale Elliott. Dale also scored a brilliant 45 off the ground.
St. Stephen’s went further ahead when a shot was blocked by the Ferrybank defence but Jay Twomey was there to finish the rebound into the net to leave the score 1-3 to 0-0 at half time. Our defence with Harry Dalton, Ryan Cowman, Alan Goncalves Da Silva were very steady and stopped many attacks.
Both teams tried extremely hard in the second half with both defences coming out on top. Both teams made changes and Ferrybank began to fight back. A good save onto the crossbar by Reece Gordon kept Ferrybank out, but before the end they worked a good goal to bring the score back to 1-3 to 1-0.
In a very exciting last 5 minutes, St. Stephen’s hit on the break with Alex Halik sealing the game with a brilliant run and point to finish the scoring. Well done to the full team of 24 players who have all played a part in our games so far.
We are delighted to be part of the County Final in the coming weeks to show our talents against the winner of the Western Final played this week too. Thanks to the parents for their continued, amazing support – and huge thanks to Mr. Morris, Mr. R. Hayden and Miss Byrne for looking after the team!
